The New Southern California Trials Association

June 13, 2008

The American Trials Association has changed it’s name. After decades of service to the trials community in Southern California the American Trials Association has been retired. The ATA board of directors has approved a new business plan to take our organization briskly into the future. The changes encompassed in the new plan will address some fundamental problems faced by all trials clubs as well as accommodate some needed business decisions.

All trials clubs are faced with the challenge of manpower and venues for putting on trials events. Over time the Valley Observed Trials Enthusiasts and the San Diego Trials Riders have found their base of riders dwindling and thus the work load going sky high for the club principles. SDTR has decided to hold both rounds of their trials on one weekend. VOTE has chosen a much different path.

VOTE will merge it’s membership with the club formerly known the Southern California Trials Association. The new combined club will be known as the Valley Observed Trials Enthusiasts. With the combined resources and venues of the SCTA and VOTE, riders in Southern California can expect continued excellent trials events in the region The club name VOTE was retained to memorialize the only World Trials Champion from the United States, Bernie Schreiber, a long time VOTE member. SCTA is the largest club and has been involved in organizing Observed Trials events in Southern California for over 40 years, and is also one of the oldest clubs in United States.

The American Trials Association was a product of many great trials minds of the past. Those leaders envisioned a California based National Trials Championship, that never came to fruition. The ATA has served us well, but it is time to move on. Our new name perfectly describes our commitment and constituency. The Southern California Trials Association is committed to providing a fun, safe and competitive Observed Trials Championship to our riders and families throughout Southern California.

Yours truly,
Paul Oswald
